What is two factor authentication?

Two Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that provides an additional layer of protection to verify the identity of a user when logging into an account or accessing sensitive information. It is designed to enhance the security of traditional username and password-based authentication methods, which can be vulnerable to hacking or unauthorized access.

2FA requires users to provide two different types of identification factors to prove their identity. These factors typically fall into three categories:

The purpose of 2FA is to make it significantly more difficult for unauthorized individuals to gain access to an account, even if they manage to obtain or guess the user's password. It adds an extra layer of security by requiring an additional factor that is not easily replicated or compromised.

How do I use 2FA with Stitch3D?

To use two-factor authentication (2FA) for login, please follow these steps:

Enable 2FA: First, enable your 2FA of choice with Stitch3D through your Account settings by enabling the option for 2FA.

Choose the second factor: Once you've enabled 2FA, you'll need to choose the second factor of authentication. Common options include:
Authenticator app: Download an authenticator app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. Follow the instructions provided by the service to link the app to your account. The app will generate a unique verification code that refreshes every few seconds.
SMS verification: Provide your phone number to the service. When you log in, they will send a one-time verification code to your phone via SMS.
Email verification: Some services send a verification code to your registered email address. You'll need to access your email account to retrieve the code.

Hardware token: Certain services offer physical devices, such as security keys or USB tokens, that you plug into your computer or mobile device to authenticate your login.

Setup the second factor: Follow the instructions provided by the service to link your chosen second factor to your account. This usually involves scanning a QR code with the authenticator app, entering your phone number or email address, or setting up the hardware token.

Login process: When you attempt to log in to your Stitch3D account, you will be asked for your username and password as usual. After providing this information, Stitch3D will prompt you for the second factor of authentication.

  • If you're using an authenticator app, open the app to view the current verification code and enter it on the login page.
  • If you're using SMS verification, you'll receive a text message with a code. Enter this code on the login page.
  • For email verification, check your email for the code and enter it on the login page.
  • If you're using a hardware token, insert or connect it to your device and follow the instructions on the login page.

Access granted: Once you successfully provide both factors, you will gain access to your Stitch3D account.

Remember to store your backup codes or recovery options in case you lose access to your primary 2FA method, such as your phone or authenticator app. This will help you regain access to your account in such situations.
